WASHINGTON, D.C. (April 7, 2025) – Today, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) provided Firearms Policy Coalition (FPC) with an important update regarding firearm regulations, stating that the Department of Justice (DOJ) and ATF would repeal and revisit several regulations and enforcement practices implemented by the anti-Second Amendment Biden Administration. Three important reforms were announced, including the repeal of the Biden Federal Firearms Administrative Action Policy and Procedure (also known as the “Zero Tolerance” policy) as well as review and revisiting of the Biden “Pistol Brace Ban” and “Engaged in the Business” rules. FPC secured key wins for gun owners against the Biden Administration in its Mock v. Garland lawsuit, a case currently on appeal at the Fifth Circuit following another FPC victory at the district court which vacated the “Pistol Brace Ban” rule nationwide.
In response to today’s announcement, FPC President Brandon Combs said: “On behalf of our members, we commend and thank President Trump, Attorney General Bondi, and ATF Director Patel for taking these important actions to protect constitutional rights and repeal the misguided ‘Zero Tolerance Policy’ implemented by their predecessors. Having been in the trenches for years fighting numerous Biden-era gun control initiatives, FPC has been a vocal advocate for these reforms, so we are encouraged by today’s announcement. We also look forward to collaborating with ATF and DOJ leadership on the deregulation of stabilizing braces and revisiting the ‘engaged in the business’ rule regarding lawful firearms commerce, two policies that were weaponized by the previous administration against the firearms community.”
Prior to President Trump’s February 7 executive order, FPC encouraged the White House to reverse all Biden-era ATF rules, regulations, and enforcement practices. And FPC recently announced its priority policy reforms which, among other things, requested that the White House establish a Second Amendment Czar to coordinate implementation of improvements across all government departments, create a First and Second Amendment Section within the DOJ’s Civil Rights Division to address unconstitutional state and local laws and practices, and enact major National Firearms Act (NFA) reforms to improve access to important, constitutionally protected arms.
