SAN FRANCISCO (August 14, 2025) – Today, Firearms Policy Coalition (FPC) announced that the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals has issued its mandate in FPC’s victory over California’s “one-gun-per-month” gun ban law, making it the first time the Circuit has issued a final judgment striking down a law as unconstitutional under the Second Amendment. This follows Attorney General Bonta’s rare move, where he declined to ask the Circuit to rehear the case en banc.
“California has managed to do what many thought impossible: violate the Second Amendment so blatantly that even the Ninth Circuit won’t uphold it,” explained FPC Action Foundation President Cody J. Wisniewski, counsel for FPC. “We are proud to have secured the rights of peaceable people and look forward to many more wins against California’s unconstitutional laws.”
