Democrats love to grandstand, sometimes go too far. Maine’s Democrat Governor, Janet Mills, recently did, proving Democrats default to demagoguery when they lose. To be a demagogue is to make dramatic, untrue statements pretending they are true. Mills is that person, raising money for a Senate bid by attacking Trump for defending girls and women under Title IX.
The height of cynicism is this female governor, who herself benefited from Title IX protections, robbing Maine girls, women, and families of the same protections. Title IX was signed in 1972. Mills started law school – full Title IX protection – in 1973.
By Mills’ own admission in an oral history for Bates College, she “worked …for the National Center for Law and Social Policy under Marcia Greenberger in Washington on women’s issues …” Greenberger defended Title IX for biological girls and women. Mills then got a job as “the first women in the criminal division of the AG’s office,” again benefiting from Title IX.
So, let’s say it like it is. As a lawyer, Mills knows Title IX was enacted for biological girls and women – to protect their lives, security, opportunities, privacy, and dignity in education and hiring. To claim anything else is dishonest, self-serving, and embarrassing for Maine.
Mills knows federal district, circuit, and Supreme Court cases for 50 years have identified Title XI’s purpose clearly – to protect biological girls and women. That was always the law’s intent.
She knows this federal statute always supersedes state law, based on our Constitution’s “supremacy clause.” She knows decades of precedent affirm this, and federal courts threw out Biden’s attempt to rewrite Title IX protections of biological girls, even before Trump returned.
Last month, in Tennessee v. Cardona, the federal court ended (vacated) Biden’s 2024 rewrite of Title IX, reaffirming protection of biological girls and women, not men who think they are girls.
The judge said Biden’s Education Department “exceeded its legal authority,” trying to redefine “sex” under Title IX, ruling “when Title IX is viewed in its entirety, it is abundantly clear that discrimination on the basis of sex means discrimination on the basis of being a male or female.”
End of story. Mills is toast. Still, as demagogues do, she pushes her brand of politics to raise money. The whole legal world is laughing at Maine. Meantime, extremism is promoted.
The Cardona Court held Biden’s 2024 Title IX regulations were what “violated the Constitution,” creating confusion around “gender” and “pronouns,” chilling free speech. The Court also called Biden’s reinventions of language “arbitrary and capricious.”
Talking turkey, students, parents, teachers, coaches, principals (except Maine’s Democrat Principals’ Association), and anyone who attended school, knows Title IX is for protecting girls.
To take any other interpretation of the Constitution, Title IX’s text, cases, or the primacy of protecting girls and women is absurd. Yet, here comes Janet Mills, determined to raise money with hatred for Trump, condemning settled law – because Trump affirmed law and two sexes.
The demagogue Democrat governor who told Mainers Biden was “sharp as a tack,” says “rule of law is at stake” as Trump insists on protecting half the population, assuring Title IX definitions.
Who is she kidding? She asserts a right to ignore federal law, the “Supremacy clause,” and courts. If Trump enforces law, withholding money under it, she vows to “meet him in court.”
Silly words from a female governor who got Title IX’s protections, now denies them to biological girls to stock her political war chest for a senate run. That is how Progressives work.
Rather than honestly explaining the law, Mills has gone ugly. She knows what she is saying is not true, yet pushes the narrative: She says Trump wants to “coerce” others “into compliance with his will,” that Title IX’s established meaning “is a violation of our Constitution.” Really?
Sounding like Jean of Arc, she pleads. “Maine may be one of the first states to undergo an investigation by this Administration, but we won’t be the last… You must ask yourself, who and what will he target next, and what will he do? Will it be you?” Rich words for a demagogue.
Mills went lower. “Will it be because of your race or your religion? Will it be because you look different or think differently? Where does it end?” The gall of demagogues is laughable. This is what she did in COVID, punished speech, religion, those who “think differently” with mandates.
Bottom line: Demagogues have no shame, and Democrats are becoming laughable demagogues. They villainize others to advance themselves. To raise money, they say anything. Mills makes the case. Beware the Democrat demagogue.
