‘Please stop giving us money,’ email from Penn’s Graduate School of Education concludes

The University of Pennsylvania’s Graduate School of Education (UPenn)

In what may be the most honest message ever to appear under Ivy League letterhead, the University of Pennsylvania’s Graduate School of Education sent an email to the “Penn community” declaring itself a “dogshit and elitist institution” that “hire[s] and admit[s] morons.”

The message, which came under the subject line “We got hacked” and which the university called “fraudulent,” went out to students and alumni just before noon on Friday.

“The University of Pennsylvania is a dogshit elitist institution full of woke retards,” it states. “We have terrible security practices and are completely unmeritocratic. We hire and admit morons because we love legacies, donors, and unqualified affirmative action admits.”

“We love breaking federal laws like FERPA (all your data will be leaked) and Supreme Court rulings like SFFA,” the message continues, referencing the Supreme Court case that deemed affirmative action in higher education unconstitutional. “Please stop giving us money. Warm regards, The University of Pennsylvania.”

It’s unclear whether the culprits are mischievous pranksters, disgruntled alumni, or underpaid IT staffers fed up with DEI trainings. Regardless, their prose touched a nerve. The Trump administration froze $175 million in funding to Penn in March, citing the school’s embrace of biological male Lia Thomas on its women’s swim team. Penn agreed to bar biological men from competing on its women’s teams some four months later.

Some prominent Penn donors, meanwhile, have already adhered to the hackers’ plea to stop giving the school money. American investor Marc Rowan halted funding to Penn in 2023 over its response to campus anti-Semitism. Cosmetics heir Ronald Lauder also opted to “re-examine” his financial support to the school.

Penn is not the only Ivy League institution with questionable cybersecurity practices. Columbia University was also hacked earlier this year, with the perpetrator stealing massive amounts of student and applicant data.
