‘Nightcaps’ is a daily column that catches you up on the biggest sports, news and culture stories you may have missed while pretending to do work at your desk. It runs Monday–Friday on OutKick.com.

First Hump Day of a brand new month. Who has it better than us right now?

Nobody!

We’ve got NFL football tomorrow. Actual NFL football. Real football. Well, sort of real football.

The Hall of Fame Game is back, which means it’s time for my favorite August tradition: Act excited for the return of football because it’s been eight months, only watch four plays, realize I don’t know anyone playing, and then flip back to “King of Queens” reruns on Cozi TV.

ZERO BS. JUST DAKICH. TAKE THE DON’T @ ME PODCAST ON THE ROAD. DOWNLOAD NOW!

My favorite time of the year! It’s here. We’re back. Let’s roll.

Welcome to a Hump Day Nightcaps — the one where NASCAR’s Natalie Decker peels back her firesuit for the fans and draws some eyeballs along the way.

What else? I’ve got a new contender for most embarrassing moment of this MLB season, another new contender for most embarrassing Angel Reese shot of all time, and Carrie Underwood is BACK.

Yes, I know Amber hit on (stole) Carrie in yesterday’s class, but I simply can’t let the return of Carrie and the iconic SNF anthem pass me by without saying anything.

It’s sort of my thing. God, I love theme songs. The best.

OK, grab you your best pair of underwear for National Underwear Day, and settle in for a Hump Day ‘Cap!

Natalie Decker peels back the firesuit … for some reason

I don’t really have any hot takes on National Underwear Day, except the fact that I assume every guy in America owns one pair that they’ve (we’ve) had in the drawer for a decade-plus and it’s basically just a skirt at this point because the entire bottom-half is just one giant hole.

Right? No? Just me? Okeedokee! Moving on …

Let’s get this Hump Day class started with NASCAR mom Natalie Decker, who has been all over the map this season.

She returned to racing at Daytona in February after giving birth, then had an all-time meltdown at Dover in May and rage-quit over the radio in the middle of a race.

True story.

It’s been a quiet summer for Natalie — probably for the best — but she returned to social media this week to debut a new partnership with Jedora Jewelry.

And as you know in NASCAR, sponsorship is everything:

Rollercoaster week for Houston’s Taylor Trammell

“Barbie has a great day every day. Ken only has a great day if Barbie looks at him. A little sneak peek into what’s coming @jedorajewelry.”

No real clue what that means or why Natalie is showing off some red lingerie under firesuit to promote a jewelry line, but it’s good to have her back in the swing of things after a tough season.

For those wondering, Decker has three O’Reilly Series starts this season with finishes of 33, 33 and 34. Credit for the consistency, I reckon.

OK, let’s leave the track and move this party over to the diamond, where Houston Astros outfielder Taylor Trammell had one of tougher moments of the entire MLB season earlier this week.

Not really sure how you come back from this:

Angel, Carrie & ‘Hard Knocks’ is back (but nobody cares anymore)

Just a brutal look for Taylor Trammell. Humiliating. Devastating. I can’t even imagine what’s going through his head when he touches home and then realizes what he just did.

How do you look your teammates in the eyes after that jog? Goodness. Better yet, how do they look him in the eyes after?

Do they laugh? Do they try to pick him up? Do they just ignore it and act like it never happened? I think you almost have to laugh. I would.

I’m a big believer in laughing through the pain, and this feels like the only way through this scene. Lordy.

The good news? Taylor buckled down, went back to the drawing board, and actually hit one over the wall last night!

All’s well that ends well! Good for Taylor Trammell. The Baseball Gods never disappoint.

OK, let’s rapid-fire this Hump Day class into a Hump Day night. I’ve got a yard to mow before it rains for the 27th straight day down here in Florida.

First up? Let’s go from one embarrassing moment to another:

I mean, it’s just perfect. Everything about that clip is perfect.

The blind dart throw to the rim. The mebound. The put-back. The yelling and shouting and screaming, all while losing by 20.

It’s just perfect. Is Angel Reese a content machine, or what? I can’t get enough of her. Between the play on the court, and the absolute nonsense off of it — including her comments before Monday’s “Barbie Game Day,” which celebrated Reese’s signature Barbie doll — I’m all in.

What comments, you ask? Oh, you know, just when she told the media that was so proud of her Angel Reese Barbie doll because she didn’t grow up with Barbie’s that looked like her.

Black Barbie dolls, by the way, have been around since the Carter Administration. Angel was born in 2002.

Moving on …

Waiting all day for a Sunday night!

Yes, Amber got Carrie yesterday, but whatever. We respect Carrie Underwood around here. There is no greater feeling than the one you get on a Sunday night in the fall when the SNF anthem comes on after your team won earlier in the day.

Carrie Underwood performs onstage during a concert in Silvis, Illinois.

It’s euphoric. It gives you chills every time. For us old enough to remember, it also came with a little dread, because it signaled that school was about 12 hours away and you hadn’t done an ounce of homework over the weekend.

But still, you got chills when it came on.

Welcome back, Carrie. Welcome back, football.

And welcome back, “Hard Knocks” … apparently:

Remember back in the day when “Hard Knocks” was appointment viewing? It was the unofficial start of the fall. The first “Hard Knocks” intro of the year, with some sort of pep talk from the coach followed by the iconic theme, was the true “Wow, football is really back” moment.

Now? Hand up, I had NO idea it was on last night. None. Zero. I didn’t even know the Seahawks were the featured team this year.

What a fall from grace.

That being said, I’ll watch it tonight. And then probably forget about it.

But man, what a theme.

See you tomorrow.
