I grew up with the Ruger 10/22 and have always had a couple in inventory. I still have the original one that my dad got back around 1976 or 1977, in fact. Over that time, I’ve accumulated a fair number of magazines, but never had a great way to store them.
At GunCon earlier this year, I saw that MTM Case-Gard had a couple of different options. There is one for 10-round factory mags, and another for extended mags like the Ruger BX-25. I arranged to get one of each type to try out over the summer.

TMC1022 – 10/22 Rotary Mag Case
MTM’s 10/22 Rotary Mag Case is a compact, stackable case that holds up to six Ruger 10/22 rotary magazines. It’s made from a Clear Smoke polymer, so you can readily see how many mags you have inside. It will also accept 17HMR or 22WMR rotary magazines. It’s honestly a pretty simple thing, but one that makes a ton of sense.
I actually have six 10-round 10/22 mags, just enough to fill a case. Despite that, I usually would only tend to find 2 or 3 before a range trip. The others were somewhere in my gun room, or still in an ammo can from the last range session.

With the MTM case, I can keep them all together and always have them ready to go. The case is compact enough that it easily drops into my range bag, or even a .50 caliber ammo can. It also fits inside the MTM Extended Mag Can if it isn’t full, which I’ll cover in a second.
The cases are stackable, too. So, if you have enough mags for more than one case, they nicely stack on top of each other. The best part is the price. MSRP is only $7.98, which makes it a super affordable way to organize and store your spare mags.

TMC1022XL – Ruger 10/22 Extended Mag Can
The Ruger 10/22 Extended Mag Can is MTM’s solution for larger, extended magazines. The curved BX-15 and BX-25 mags won’t fit in a flat box like the BX-10 mags, so MTM went a different route. They used one of their polymer .50 cal-sized ammo cans as the base container.
Rather than a series of dividers like the Rotary Mag Case, they use a piece of dense cell foam in the bottom cut to accept 12 magazines in rows of three.

The foam padding holds the mags upright and prevents them from bumping, sliding, and scratching during transport. Like the Rotary mag case, these cases are also stackable. They have a water-resistant O-ring seal, heavy-duty snap latches, and padlock tabs for two padlocks. There’s also a collapsible carrying handle.
The case comes in Flat Dark Earth color and has an MSRP of $30.59.

I don’t have enough mags to fill mine yet, which I really should remedy. Still, it easily fits my one Ruger factory BX-25 magazine and my three High Tower Armory RM-25 magazines, which are excellent by the way.
With only half the can full, though, I can also fit the Rotary Mag Case inside the extended mag case. I still have plenty of room to drop in a Speed Beez Lever Loader, too. That gives me room for six extended mags, and another six 10-round mags, and the speed loader. Not too shabby.
