Declines to mention his hands-on experience in the field of professional depravity
Jeffrey Toobin, the CNN analyst and New York Times contributor who suffered minimal consequences after “revealing his source” and “pumping it for information” on a Zoom call with fellow journalists in October 2020, is an expert on so-called cancel culture and Donald Trump’s alleged efforts to abolish it.
That’s according to Politico, which in its “Playbook” newsletter cited Toobin as knowledgable about how Trump is “canceling cancel culture.” For some reason, the liberal news blog—located many, many floor beneath the Washington Free Beacon‘s global headquarters—neglected to explain that Toobin was fired from the New Yorker (but not CNN) for “adjusting his mic” and “running down a hot tip” while his colleagues looked on in horror.
Toobin’s New Beat: Renowned Masturbator Joins New York Times
Politico, which received more than $8.5 million last year from government agencies shelling out up to $15,000 a month for subscriptions to its premier reporting service, Politico Pro, wrote that Trump was “rolling back political cancel culture” by helping his allies “survive controversies” through the pardon power and other instruments of executive authority. Toobin agreed, suggesting Trump’s actions were “expressions of dominance and control.”
The outlet cited the famed masturbator as a “veteran legal reporter” and even included a link to his new book about presidential pardons, which was very thoughtful. No other context regarding Toobin’s scandalous past was provided. Before the infamous Zoom call, Toobin was best known for having an affair with a co-worker’s much younger daughter, getting her pregnant, and attempting to bribe her to get an abortion. “All that matters is [Trump’s] benediction,” Toobin said. “All that matters is his say-so. And that’s all anyone needs for rehabilitation.”
Sean Parnell was also quoted in the newsletter. He’s a former Republican Senate candidate who currently serves as the Pentagon’s top spokesperson. Politico provided ample context for Parnell’s comments, noting that he “suspended his Pennsylvania Senate campaign in 2021 after losing a fight for custody of his children to his estranged wife, who accused him of abuse in court testimony.” Even after conceding that Parnell “faced no charges or prison time and won back custody of his kids,” Politico suggested his hiring was an example of how an “emboldened” Trump was surrounding himself with seedy individuals.
Politico did not publish a single story about the time Toobin manhandled himself out of a job in 2020 and declined to interview any of his victims. Perhaps that content is only available to premium subscribers. A 2024 article in Politico magazine about how Toobin was taking part in (allegedly safe for work) Zoom calls with other anti-Trump pundits described the masturbator as “a pioneer in the field of cable news legal analysis” but made no mention of his sinister affiliation with the videoconferencing application.
Politico has also published zero articles about how media organizations such as CNN and the New York Times are “rolling back cancel culture” by continuing to platform a confirmed sexual deviant. Toobin resumed his regular appearances on CNN in early 2024, when Joe Biden was still president (at least on paper). The New York Times, an organization that ousted a top editor for publishing a “dangerous” op-ed by Sen. Tom Cotton (R., Ark.) in 2020, handed Toobin a job last week as a contributing writer.
