Jake Tapper claims Democrats ‘wouldn’t be honest with us’ until ‘after the election’
A senior aide quit their job at the White House because they didn’t think Joe Biden should run for reelection. We don’t know who it was, but they spoke to Jake Tapper and Alex Thompson, authors of the forthcoming book Original Sin: President Biden’s Decline, Its Cover-Up, and His Disastrous Choice to Run Again. “[W]e attempted to shield him from his own staff, so many people didn’t realize the extent of the decline beginning in 2023,” the anonymous aide said. “I love Joe Biden. When it comes to decency, there are few in politics like him. Still, it was a disservice to the country and to the party for his family and advisers to allow him to run again.”
It’s one of the most damning admissions surrounding the White House ploy to conceal Biden’s rapidly deteriorating mental acuity. “The White House was lying not only to the press, not only to the public, but they were lying to their own cabinet,” Tapper said Tuesday on CNN. “They were lying to White House staffers, they were lying to Democrats in Congress about how bad things had gotten.”
That’s a convenient narrative. It would absolve much of the Democratic Party and its allies in the media for their respective roles in downplaying widespread voter concerns about Biden’s age and fitness to serve another four years. The anonymous aide seems content to absolve even Biden for deciding to run again, or is, perhaps, suggesting that Biden lacked the cognitive ability to make that decision on his own. In any event, it’s nice to see the truth finally come out more than two years after Biden announced his reelection. The anonymous senior aide who quit in protest and waited until after the election to speak out deserves extra points for courage.
“Alex and I started writing this book after the election of 2024, and we spoke with more than 200 people, most of whom, almost all of whom were Democrats, and almost all of whom wouldn’t be honest with us, or wouldn’t be candid with us, until after the election,” Tapper said. “Now we have anecdotes and facts about what was really going on behind the scenes, with details that Democrats wouldn’t share with us until after Election Day.”
