The Washington Free Beacon Is Growing

The Washington Free Beacon is empire building. We’re thrilled to announce we’ve acquired one of our favorite Substack sites, The Editors, and its proprietor, Ira Stoll, who starts as a senior writer at the Free Beacon today.

Ira and I worked together 20 years ago at the New York Sun, the paper he cofounded. I’ve followed his work closely over the years, particularly at SmarterTimes, a passion project devoted entirely to pointing out the pervasive bias at the New York Times and to countering and correcting it. He is a man after our own hearts.

Writing at The Editors, Ira’s passions have been our passions and his enemies our enemies. Over the past year, we followed along as he dismantled the Times’s attacks on Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu and introduced us to the “rule of byline inflation”: “the reliability of any news content is inversely proportional to the number of journalists credited with producing it.” He has even covered some of the same stories, beating us on the scoop that the Harvard Law Review awarded a $65,000 fellowship to an editor caught on film accosting an Israeli student.
