Attorney General Pam Bondi announced Thursday morning that the FBI had captured one of the top leaders of the international gang MS-13 in the Washington, D.C. suburb of Woodbridge, Virginia. The news marks the latest significant victory in the Trump administration’s efforts to target criminal illegal aliens.
The FBI has thus far revealed few details about the arrest operation but has said that the arrest involved the Prince William County Police Department, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and Virginia State Police. The New York Post reported that this is part of a larger Virginia operation that has resulted in the arrests of more than 340 criminals in the past month.
Bondi explained that the captured MS-13 member was the gang’s leader for the East Coast and is an illegal alien from El Salvador.
“This is the result of Joe Biden’s open-border policy, what our country has been plagued with,” Bondi said. “But from the second Donald Trump took office, he said he is going to make America safe. He shut down our borders, and now it’s our job to get these people out of our country as fast as we can… we will not have another Laken Riley. We didn’t need new laws, as President Trump always says — we needed a new president.”
“This is what happens when you let good cops be cops and we’re going to continue to let good cops be cops across this country,” FBI Director Kash Patel added. “We are returning our communities to safety.”
Trump congratulated the team involved in the MS-13 gang leader’s capture. “Great job by Pam Bondi, @FBIDirectorKash, Tom HOMAN, and Kristi N, on the capture of MS13 leader – A big deal!” he posted on Truth Social.
Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin also praised the operation while blasting the Biden administration for allowing criminal illegal aliens into the country and criticizing Virginia Democrats for working to thwart the Trump administration’s law enforcement efforts.
“It’s this effort that has been enabled by the Trump administration,” Youngkin said. “President Trump said get the bad guys. I’ve been working on this literally for the first three years of our administration with little to no help from the senior leadership in the federal government in the Biden administration.”
“Local jurisdictions that claim sanctuary city status are absolutely unacceptable,” Youngkin continued. “Look who’s in your community. Look who’s living around the corner from citizens that are going to work trying to build their lives in a place that’s the best place in America to live and work and raise a family. Yet we have one of the top three operatives from one of the most dangerous gangs in America and the world living around the corner, and you sanctuary cities want to give refuge to them.”
The high-profile arrest could reverberate in Virginia’s gubernatorial and House of Delegates elections taking place this November. While Youngkin and Virginia Republicans have publicly committed to working with the Trump administration to deport criminal illegal aliens, Virginia Democrats have made clear their commitment to sanctuary city policies, pledging to work against the administration’s deportation efforts.
