UCLA in the crosshairs: Already under scrutiny from the Trump administration, UCLA medical school is now the latest university sued for racial discrimination, according to a complaint filed Thursday and obtained by our Aaron Sibarium. It argues that Latino and black applicants are held to a lower standard in the admissions process than their white and Asian counterparts.

“The complaint is based on multiple Washington Free Beacon reports about the extent of racial preferences at the medical school. It was filed by Students for Fair Admissions (SFFA), the group whose lawsuit against Harvard University resulted in the Supreme Court decision, in 2023, that outlawed affirmative action in higher education,” Sibarium writes.

“This lawsuit sends an important message to every institution of higher education: Any school and administrator that uses race and racial proxies in admissions in defiance of the Supreme Court’s ruling in Students for Fair Admissions v Harvard will be sued,” SFFA president Edward Blum told the Free Beacon.

So that’s why Kamala lost: If it weren’t for “sexist” Republicans, Kamala Harris might be president. Or at least that’s what Joe Biden told the ladies of The View on Thursday.

Appearing on the daytime talk show for the second time since leaving office, Biden stumbled “through a series of exceedingly polite softball questions about his refusal to relinquish power despite widespread concerns about his age and cognitive health,” writes our Andrew Stiles.

“I wasn’t surprised,” Biden said of Harris’s defeat to Donald Trump. “They went the route of, uh, the sexist route, all, the whole route. I mean, ‘this is a woman, she’s this, she’s that,’ uh, I mean, it really, I’ve never seen quite, uh, as successful and a consistent campaign undercutting the notion that a woman couldn’t lead the country, and a woman of mixed race. And, uh, they, they, they played that to, uh, fairly well.” Uh-huh.

“It was one of the most coherent responses Biden would give through the hour-long interview,” Stiles observes, noting how The View hosts fell all over themselves to praise Biden’s “selfless” decision to bow out of the 2024 race. “Everyone laughed when Joy Behar wondered if Biden ‘could be the next pope.’”

Damage control: Biden’s public appearances may not be inspiring much confidence these days, but not to worry—he’s calling in a publicist with a track record of hiding the health problems of powerful figures from the American people.

To defend him against allegations of senility, Team Biden has hired Chris Meagher, “who previously helped cover up former defense secretary Lloyd Austin’s secret hospitalization,” writes our Alana Goodman. The Biden administration spokesman has been tasked with helping the former president “transition past the first 100 days of the Trump administration,” Politico reported on Thursday. He even managed to lie about why he was hired!

Because, of course, the real reason he’s coming on board is to push back against “a flurry of high-profile books detailing” Biden’s cognitive decline. The former president’s allies, meanwhile, “also fear that soon-to-be-released audio of his interview with special counsel Robert Hur, who said the former president came across as an ‘elderly man with a poor memory,’ could ‘further damage his legacy.'”

Away from the Beacon:

  • Freed Israeli hostage Emily Damari had this to say about the Pulitzer-winning New Yorker contributor, Mosab Abu Toha, who argued she wasn’t a hostage: “You claim to honor journalism that upholds truth, democracy, and human dignity. And yet you have chosen to elevate a voice that denies truth, erases victims, and desecrates the memory of the murdered.”
  • Columbia University president Claire Shipman condemned Wednesday’s takeover of Butler Library, calling the student-led anti-Israel protest “utterly unacceptable” after security officers were injured and 900 students were forced to evacuate during finals week.
  • Jasmine Crockett dismissed left-wing violence and labeled Republicans “inherently” violent in a podcast appearance this week, claiming they “attract violent actors” and “white supremacists galore.”
