‘Disgusted, but not surprised’
A supporter of Abigail Spanberger, a Democrat running for governor of Virginia, caused a stir on Thursday by holding an appallingly racist sign at a protest in Arlington. The elderly white woman was spotted outside a school board meeting where Spanberger’s Republican opponent, Winsome Earle-Sears, was scheduled to speak in opposition to district rules allowing so-called transgender students to use bathrooms and locker rooms based on their self-declared “gender identity” rather than biological sex.
“Hey Winsome, If Trans Can’t Share Your Bathroom Then Blacks Can’t Share My Water Fountain,” the woman’s sign read, appearing to suggest that preventing biological men from changing in women’s locker rooms was equivalent to racial segregation under Jim Crow. The woman wore a shirt representing We of Action Virginia, a far-left activist group that canvassed in support of Spanberger’s candidacy. Upon being told that her sign was getting a lot of “negative” attention on television, the woman reacted in disbelief.
“I’m disgusted, but not surprised,” Earle-Sears said in a statement condemning the sign. “This is the ‘tolerant’ left Abigail Spanberger defends.” Spanberger also issued a statement denouncing her supporter’s behavior as “racist, abhorrent, and unacceptable.”
We are also disgusted but not surprised that a Democratic activist would brandish a racist sign in defense of policies that require teenage girls to share locker rooms with biological males. We’ve seen it before at other left-wing anti-science rallies around the country. We took photographs to share at a later date once we could firmly establish the existence of a trend. We’re sharing them now for your immediate edification.
