What: Firearms Policy Coalition (FPC) and FPC Action Foundation (FPCAF) filed comments with the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) on the proposed “Revised Mailing Standards for Firearms” rule, which would change existing USPS policy to allow “lawful handguns to be mailed under the same terms and conditions as lawful rifles and shotguns.” The proposed rule is in response to the January OLC opinion determining that USPS’s current prohibition violates the Second Amendment.

Where: The comments were filed with the U.S. Postal Service in Washington, D.C.
Why: Current law and USPS policy allows individuals to ship long guns via USPS, but unconstitutionally prohibits individuals from shipping handguns. While the proposed rule needs to go further, it represents one step in the right direction of respecting individual’s natural and fundamental rights to acquire and transport arms by subjecting handguns only to the requirements applicable to long guns.
