What: Firearms Policy Coalition (FPC) filed a motion for preliminary injunction in Bathras v. Moore, its lawsuit challenging Maryland’s law banning semiautomatic handguns with a cruciform trigger bar, which includes nearly every Glock and Glock-style pistol on the market.

Who: The plaintiffs, which include FPC, two FPC members, Atlantic Guns, Inc, the National Rifle Association of America, and the Second Amendment Foundation, are represented by Nicole J. Moss, David H. Thompson, Peter A. Patterson, and William V. Bergstrom of Cooper & Kirk, PLLC.

When: July 20, 2026.

Where: The motion was filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland.

Why: Maryland’s ban unconstitutionally prohibits what are among the most popular firearms in the nation. FPC filed today’s motion to prevent the ban from being enforced while the lawsuit continues to the merits at the district court.

Quote: “Maryland’s latest gun ban is an assault on the constitutional rights of every peaceable American and exactly the kind of tyranny the Second Amendment was enshrined to protect against. In this law, the State has banned peaceable people from acquiring some of the most popular handguns in America. If Maryland’s ban is allowed to stand, it could be extended to prohibit virtually every semiautomatic firearm. But FPC and our Grassroots Army are fighting to eliminate this law, whatever it takes. We will continue to Fight Forward and eliminate unconstitutional and immoral bans throughout the United States.” — FPC President Brandon Combs
